What is Freewheeling?

  • A forum for future-thinking and practical living, in the context of friendship and community
  • A non-profit initiative for social and environmental sustainability
  • A strong, compelling association of people who are intent on making a difference, because of who they are, what they do, and the wholehearted courage with which they are embracing our future.
Freewheeling has created a dynamic, inclusive community space that engages and challenges people to think ahead, pushing the edge of innovative ideas and action towards a more sustainable future for all.

Its sustainability ethos is holistic and far-reaching, and includes not only Post-Carbon and Green issues, Renewables, Land and Agriculture, but also Education, Economics, Wellness and Personal Development, Arts and Culture, and the full spectrum of Community Development.

Freewheeling 2010 took place at Stanford Valley Guest Farm in March, read about the amazing experience it was:

Sam Kelly

Sam Kelly is co- mother to Sarah 20 & mother to Ruthi, 7, married to the Mighty Chai Wallah. She is a film producer and in the gaps between mothering, “wifing” (which she is not very good at…she never went to finishing school) and film producing, she pours her passion into Freewheeling, the festival that happens on our farm. She loves the sense of community that Freewheeling taps into & that comes from being involved in Stanford Valley Farm

Jonathan Rands

Jonathan Rands moved away from the Cape in 1980 to pursue his career in The Big Smoke. He has been looking for a way to return ever since – AND for a place which in all ways would most feel like “coming home”. The place has been found – Stanford Valley! Now all he has to do is find the way......

In the meantime, he is content to share his happy discovery with the world by inviting them to Freewheeling www.freewheeling.co.za - for them to discover for themselves the mix of people and place that so appeals to him.

And in the MEAN meantime, he continues to create theatre in the corporate and industrial world as a way of effecting meaningful change. And dreams of coming home.......
